April 2007

April 30, 2007

March and April!

When I last left you, I was on my way to the famous San Antonio Stock Show and Rodeo. Well, what fun we had!! The hospitality was incredible, thank you Julie for such a fun time. While we were down there, I had the opportunity to tour the Alamo, and the San Antonio Riverwalk. I’ve decided that we really need a riverwalk in Clovis, but I’m not sure if that’s possible, and the shopping was of course, unforgettable. Returning home for a couple weeks, I then had to repack my Ariat gearbags for the Dodge National Circuit Finals held in Pocatello, Id.

Throughout the week of the DNCFR, I along with 15 other state queens had opportunities to talk to schools, visit hospitals, and ski the famous Pebble Creek slopes! Now, let me inform you that I am not the best skier, and I can count on one hand how many times I have EVER been skiing…so to say the least; it was going to be interesting. We all managed to rent our “gear” but when we all saw the bunny hill, some quickly changed their mind. At our Sierra Summit near Clovis, you take a rope tow to the top of the bunny hill…. In Pocatello, you ride a chair lift to the top! After a few practices on the bunny hill I told my chaperone, Hayley, I was ready to go to the top! I probably should have re-thought that…. But after 45 minutes of back and forth “snow plows” I made it to the bottom, and I must say I was very proud of myself! After our long day at the ski slope my roommates, Miss Rodeo NM, Miss Rodeo Illinois, Miss Rodeo Washington, and I recapped on just how many of us fell, slid, or stayed near the lodge, it was a blast!

Making my way back home, Katie Rosser (Flying U Rodeo Company) picked me up from the Sacramento International Airport, and we were off to “Agriculture Day” at the Capitol. This is such an important day for Professional Rodeo in the State of California, because it allows myself, PRCA lobbyist Bob Fox, and Pro Rodeo Hall of Famer Cotton Rosser of Flying U Rodeo Company to talk to legislators, and potential fans about our western way of life. It was an honor to be among such an elite group of people that day who truly make a difference to professional rodeo.

Next on my rodeo trail, was the Miss Redding Rodeo pageant; where the 2006 Miss Redding Rodeo, Melissa Chatham, accompanied me. I was so excited to attend this pageant, because I had the opportunity to emcee!! By the end of the pageant, we crowned the new 2007 Miss Redding Rodeo, Jennifer Schneider. Congratulations again! And thank you to Linda and her committee for making me feel so welcome. Leaving the beautiful weather in Redding, I then attended the Oakdale Rodeo, where the weather was not so likeable. It poured! I mean POURED!! I am so thankful for my Ariat weatherproof jacket for not only keeping me warm and dry. The fans were troopers, they came equipped with proper rain gear, and umbrellas. I have to say, rain does add a little bit of fun and some good laughs. Congratulations to Callie Horn on becoming Miss Oakdale Rodeo 2007!

From pouring rain to 98-degree weather, I was in my hometown for the 93rd annual Clovis Rodeo! While being home I had the opportunity to make an appearance at the 6th annual John Garabo blood drive, where the community of Clovis gathered more than 1000 pints of blood in 12 hours! The Clovis Rodeo has been recognized nationally from the Central Valley Blood Center for making such amazing efforts to help our hospitals in need. My time home has been kept short, and now I am off to the Bakersfield Stampede days Rodeo, and the Sonora Mother Lode Round up!

See you soon!
