May into June!
Congratulations to Brittany Slaton the 2007 Miss Bakersfield Stampede Days! I know you will have an amazing year! While in Bakersfield, I had the privilege of touring the Kern County Sheriff’s dept. While on tour we went through several different areas, my favorite was the hands on simulator dept. This is where sheriffs’ in training, drive a car that is attached to a “BIG” video game, and have to perform different tasks. It was a very influential tour and I have much respect for officers of the law. The rodeo weekend brought huge crowds, and great stock! Thank you to my entire rodeo family in Bakersfield, I had a wonderful time.
Traveling North on 99 in my official Miss Rodeo California Toyota Tundra and my Circle J horse trailer with Wally in tow, I made my next stop at the Sonora Mother Lode Round up! I was so anxious to arrive in Sonora, because my dear friend Jess Harper, whom I haven’t seen in over 6 months, was visiting from TX. You know how girls are; of course there was so much to catch up on. Prior to any official Miss Rodeo California business, Kim Silva (Miss Mother Lode 2005) and her mother, Rosie, were the most fabulous tour guides of Sonora! We shopped our hearts out! That evening I attended my first Calcutta, how much fun!!!! They were auctioning teams for the Calf Scramble, which raised over $20,000 dollars! The next morning Burt Davis, myself, and the whole Sonora crew went to the different radio stations for brief interviews and then off to breakfast we went. The weather was perfect and so was the rodeo! To Ty, Audie, and everyone in Sonora, my sincere thank you for having me, your hospitality was indescribable. Congratulations to Katie May Broderick, the 2007 Miss Mother Lode Round up!
My way home was non-stop phone conversations, preparing for my Miss Rodeo California fundraiser, May 19th! In preparation for our big evening the city of Clovis, the Clovis Rodeo Assn, and the entire community of businesses were bending over backwards to make this a huge success! To say the least, it was. With over 175 in attendance, a “Clovis” tri tip dinner donated by the Clovis Kiwanis, a live and silent auction which had items from a week in Pebble Beach to an autographed guitar by George Strait, my dinner was a hit! From my entire family we thank all of you who made it possible, and a big big thank you to Monte Mills and the Lucky Horseshoe band, for the entertainment. Wrapping up my fundraiser and mailing my thank you cards, Wally and I were back on the road to the Santa Maria Elks Rodeo.
I attended the Santa Maria rodeo last year, as Miss California Rodeo Salinas, and it is one of my favorites! They always have a phenomenal crowd and only minutes from the ocean. Kari Ann (Miss California Rodeo Salinas 2006) and I made sure to hit the beach! To Norm, Marvin, and all of Santa Maria, thank you for having me.
Wally and I are off this weekend to the Jurupa rodeo, and then north bound in my Toyota for the Reno rodeo!
See you at the next rodeo!
